Meet Mrs. Reed

My name is Karen Reed, this is my seventh year teaching at St. Alexander School. My first year I taught Junior High Religion and also worked as the Resource teacher. I have taught First grade for four years and this will be my second year teaching second grade. I graduated from Elmhurst College with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with an Area of Concentration in Social Science and Reading with a Middle School Approval.

Philosophy of Education

I believe that the purpose of education is to provide children with the resources and skills that they need to become lifelong learners so that they can pursue a passion or interest later on in life. My goal is to provide the basic framework of information and skills while also inspiring students to be curious, ask questions, and discover answers. My role as a teacher is to create interest and meaning, balance the needs of all students, and create a classroom community that is conducive to learning. I believe children learn best when the content is relevant, appropriate, and interesting to students. Education provides students with a general foundation but it is the teacher who must inspire the students to want to discover and learn more than what the classroom has to offer. I truly enjoy working with children and helping them grow both spiritually and intellectually.
